ABOUT METROEAST
Residents of the East Metro area know their community best. That’s why at MetroEast Community Media, it’s in their hands to create what goes on the air.

MetroEast is a non-profit community television organization that allows staff and hundreds of volunteers to produce and cablecast Public Access, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) programming.

In 1984, the organization was founded as Multnomah Cable Access by a group of concerned citizens who understood that cable television had potential to provide more than entertainment. More than 20 years later, MetroEast is still here with the mission to invigorate civic engagement, inspire diverse voices and strengthen community life.

MetroEast administers eight cable channels and offers video production workshops, providing individuals, community groups and non-profit organizations a way to discuss community issues through video.

MetroEast's programming comes from our staff, volunteers and community members. To help create that programming, we offer access to equipment for non-commercial video production. Each month, we offer low-cost video production workshops for the public and special groups. For MetroEast members, we provide access to a fully equipped TV studio, mobile production equipment and editing suites.

We have long been an active partner with East Metro educational institutions. MetroEast provides students in five school districts access to advanced technology and training.

Acting as East Metro’s local C-SPAN, MetroEast covers local government meetings for five jurisdictions, schools districts and local agencies such as Public Utility Districts. Regular live programming on MetroEast's channels includes Gresham and Troutdale City Council meetings, all Multnomah County Commissioners meetings, and Planning Commission meetings and hearings for Troutdale, Gresham and Fairview. The exposure created by live and taped coverage makes local government more transparent and available to citizens while helping local politicians respond the their constituents.

MetroEast receives funding through franchise fees collected by Comcast Cable and disbursed by the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission. Our second 12-year franchise began in 1998; it serves Gresham, Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village, and Multnomah County.

National recognition is often awarded to MetroEast, including the 2003 Overall Excellence Award and numerous Hometown Video Awards from the Alliance for Community Media. MetroEast Community Media has received National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, Cable Ace, Government Star and Aegis Awards.

You can be part of all this. We invite you to watch our channels, share your ideas and talents, and learn to make media that reflects your world.
